How to Create Community Introductions

Published November 6, 2026

A thoughtful introduction helps members understand what a community offers and how they can participate without pressure.

The first few moments in a community shape whether a new member feels oriented or lost. A good introduction reduces uncertainty while keeping the invitation welcoming.

Explain the purpose in plain language. Tell people which conversations, projects, or relationships the community is designed to support.

Show where to begin. Point to a small number of useful pages, active topics, or simple first actions instead of presenting every available option at once.

Describe participation norms. Explain how members ask questions, share resources, disagree respectfully, and report concerns.

Use an encouraging tone without making promises you cannot keep. People should understand both the possibilities and the limits of the space.

Invite a low-pressure response. A member can say hello, choose a topic, or simply read until they are ready.

Introductions work best when they are revisited. As the community grows, update them so newcomers receive an accurate picture of how to participate.
