Creating Community Spaces for Referrals
Published November 6, 2026
Referral spaces help members find relevant services and contacts while keeping recommendations current, respectful, and appropriately limited.
A referral is a bridge to another source of support, knowledge, or expertise. Community referral spaces should make that bridge easier to cross without promising more than they can provide.
Explain what kind of referral belongs in the space. Members may be looking for local services, professional help, practical organizations, or trusted learning resources.
Include enough context to evaluate a recommendation. Location, language, cost, access, and opening hours may all matter.
Distinguish personal experience from verified information. A positive recommendation can be useful without guaranteeing that every person will have the same result.
Protect privacy. People should not need to publish sensitive circumstances in order to ask for a general direction.
Review old referrals. Organizations close, policies change, and contact details become inaccurate.
Responsible referral spaces help members take the next step while respecting their right to choose what fits their situation.
